"From Mary, With Love"!

DGL's first Christmas special is airing this weekend, and you won't want to miss it! Brooke will write, Mary will cry, and a Baby will be born! After you listen, please share your thoughts with us...
  • Was this episode touching? Why or why not?
  • Did you appreciate hearing the relationship between Brooke and her mother? Why do you think Mrs. Morrison was so moved by the letter?
  • Did you like that the DGL characters played the Bible characters in the story, or was this awkward?
    • Did the Morrison brothers make good shepherds?
    • Would you have liked Luke to play the role of Joseph?
  • What did this episode succeed best in doing: showing the virgin Mary in a new light, presenting a message about responsibility, or dramatizing the Christmas story?
We want to hear from as many DGL fans as possible about this classic DGL episode, so feel free to review in whatever way you want to (you don't have to answer the questions!)--but please don't forget to give "From Mary, With Love" a rating. Your deadline for reviewing is 1PM on Monday!

Review "The Best Christmas on Record"!

Last chance to review! The double-length DGL Christmas special "The Best Christmas on Record" will not be played on the radio this year, but we are planning to discuss this show in an upcoming podcast. As always we would love to receive your thoughts on this show--you can listen to the show here if you haven't heard it before or want to re-listen to it. (Note: The following questions contain spoilers.)

The Morrisons at Christmas Time:
  • Which Morrison Christmas tradition did you like best? Do you have any of the same traditions?
  • Did you find the family togetherness--the good-natured teasing and so on--that was presented in this show heart-warming?
  • Was the Morrison family singing together a touching way to end the episode? Do you think "Silent Night" was the most fitting Christmas carol for them to sing?
Going Back 15 Years:
  • Did the actors do a good job at sounding younger in the flashbacks?
  • Was the re-telling of "The Gift of the Magi" on DGL a good idea? (You can read O. Henry's short story here.)
  • Is Arnie (of Arnie's Antiques) a memorable character?
  • Do you consider Mary too emotional in this episode, or do you think her getting upset is more understandable in this episode since she's pregnant with Brooke?
  • Do you think Coleraine deserved to win the competition?
The Richters at Their Best and Worst:
  • Did you like hearing from Tiffany at the Classic Coleraine Christmas? Why do you think Monica was trying to be nice to the Morrisons there?
  • Was Monica's drive to get the town looking classic (in the flashbacks) humorous? Did you like how she got her comeuppance?
  • Do you think the "twist in the tale" near the very end was satisfactory (or even much of a "twist")? Why do you think Monica chose to give everything back?
A Different Feel:
  • Were you disappointed that Jacob didn't host this episode?
  • Did you like that the show is longer than other DGL shows? Did you think the pacing was right?
  • How many stars (out of five, ten, or one hundred) would you give this episode?
Answer as few or as many questions from above as you like! You have until 1PM on Wednesday to get your thoughts in. Also, we'd love to hear a Christmas message (between ten and thirty seconds long) from you for that podcast! Our e-mail address is slowwalkdgl@gmail.com.

Sleepless in Coleraine!

Find out why two "Insomni-maniacs" aren't getting enough sleep in this week's episode! You'll also hear the return of a character who's important to the mystery of Grace...
  • Was Brooke caffeinated disturbing to hear, or funny? Which aspects of her exam preparation were good and which were unwise?
  • Were you surprised when Mikey fell out of the tree?
  • Did you appreciate getting back to the Grace saga with this episode? Did you feel that the return of the doctor added to the show? (In particular, what did you think of the first scene at the Sunrise Grill--was it scary? Cliché? Weird? Riveting?)
  • Was the lesson of the show illustrated best in Brooke's, Mikey's, or the doctor's storyline?
Make sure to give the show a rating! You have until 1PM (MST) on Monday to share your thoughts--we can't wait to hear them!

DGL Albums on iTunes
Thanks to Max T., we have all sorts of technical information about the DGL albums available to download via iTunes. Consider these things before buying!
  • Each album costs US$5.95.
  • They are in DRM-protected AAC (.m4b) format, which means you can only play them on Apple products (such as iTunes and Quicktime) and about 500 different MP3 players.
  • Instead of getting twelve individual files, you get one file with twelve chapters so you can skip to the next episode.
  • Although you can burn the album on to a CD with iTunes, you may not be able to have each episode as a separate track (if you know how to burn chapters as separate tracks on iTunes, let us know!).
  • The quality is only 64kbps, and a short tag from Audible.com is added on to the beginning.
  • No specials are available.
And if you decide that you don't want to risk purchasing from iTunes, the tried-and-true shopcbh.org has every episode of DGL available for buying in high-quality MP3 format!

More About "Saved by Grace"

The song featured in "A Story to Tell" and which was discussed briefly and quoted from in this week's podcast was "Saved by Grace." This hymn was published in 1891, after Fanny heard a message that Christians do not need to fear death. She said about "Saved by Grace," "There is one hymn I have written which has never been published. I call it my soul's poem. Sometimes when I am troubled, I repeat it to myself, for it brings comfort to my heart." The song is about the Christian's longing for Heaven, but also acknowledges that we have a mission to fulfill while we're here on earth. If you have a favorite Fanny Crosby song or you've found any other connections between her and Grace, let us know!

Beauty and the Beast Within

Calling for reviews of this week's popular DGL show, "Beauty and the Beast Within"! We want to hear what you have to say about 3-8...
  • Why do you think that this episode is often considered one of the most outstanding DGL shows? Do you think it deserves to be seen as such a great show?
  • Is Mary too reactive in this show, especially when talking to Brooke and Luke?
  • Is Justin and Michael's talk with their dad a good way to end the episode? What aspects of it did you find most interesting?
  • Do you like the way the serious messages are handled throughout the episode?
And if that's not enough for you to comment on, you also have the character of Haley, the incident at the Taylor's store, and the issue of feminism that you can write about if you want. Due to the serious nature of "Beauty and the Beast Within," we ask that younger listeners check with their parents before reviewing. When Good Dogs Go Bad!

Our podcast about "Stars and Gripes" won't be out until Monday or Tuesday, but you can fill in time while you wait by reviewing this week's interesting DGL episode "Deadlines and Date Books." We want to know if you like this show or not and why! Here's a few questions to get you thinking:
  • What lesson do you think Justin and Lauren learned in this episode?
  • Did you like hearing Tiffany scheming and being sneaky ? Was her comeuppance satisfactory?
  • Did you identify with Brooke's predicament? Was Haley expecting too much from her?
Please note that we need your reviews by 1PM (MST) on Monday this week, so write or record your rambles really rapidly! :-)

"Hats Off! The Flag Goes By!"

Haley's not in the mood for such sentimentality this week on DGL. Listen and find out why in "Stars and Gripes." After you've listened, send us your thoughts on this episode celebrating patriotism and citizenship!
  • Do you think Haley's frustration with "the government" and "America" is justifiable? Does her "anti-American kick" get annoying?
  • Is Tiffany's attitude toward "public religion" common? Do you like seeing her antagonism toward Justin and Lauren at the paper in each episode?
  • Did you appreciate the insights on prayer and the role of citizens? How were these lessons demonstrated in this episode by some of the characters?
  • Do you like the final scene at the Community Picnic? Do you think ending with the song is a good conclusion to the conflict and teaching of the episode?
And if you're wanting to write more about the show, here's even more questions (these ones a bit more on the light-hearted side):
  • Do you agree with Tiffany that it's "dorky" for Justin to have a coin collection?
  • What kind of flowers do you think Mrs. Morrison planted?
  • Do you think "God Bless America" would make a better national anthem than "The Star-Spangled Banner?
And if you feel up to a challenge, you could apply II Chronicles 7:14-22 and Proverbs 14:34 (and any other appropriate verses that come to mind) to the theme of this episode. Whatever you write in relation to this show, please get it to us by 3PM on Wednesday. We love reading (and playing) your thoughts on each DGL episode, so give us lots of fan opinion this week!

Season Three Has Begun!

YAY!!! Seven months into the DGL Rewind, we finally arrive at Season Three. And your favorite DGL fans Daniel and Dave are excited about launching into a whole "new" season, but please help us by sending reviews of the episodes when you can! This week's episode is 3-1 "Power Play"--you'll get to hear from the Richters, Lauren, all of the Morrisons, and maybe even Pastor Mark as they face being brainwashed by a new media company in Coleraine intent on ruling the world. Well, okay, it's not such an implausible story as that--listen here to find out what this week's show's really about. :-D
  • Which of the Richter girls--Tiffany or Maya--are you most looking forward to hearing in this season?
  • Timmy: Cute or annoying in this show? :-)
  • Did Justin's dilemma ring true for you? If you had been in his position, which option would you have chosen?
You have right up until 2PM on Wednesday (MST time) to review, so please take this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to our discussion of "Power Play." We'll even take song requests from you guys. ;-)

"It's the Connection!"

The Morrison kids attempt to make some "Connections" in this week's episode, the finale of Season Two.
  • Do you like the scenes with the Morrison kids trying to solve "Coleraine's biggest mystery"? Did you like that flashbacks of earlier moments were included?
  • What do you think of the envelope that Justin comes across at the Richter's Bed and Breakfast? What about the papers that Tiff and Maya dropped off?
  • Was the final scene with Maya and Grace a good way to end the season? Was it a tearjerker?
Both of us will read out your reviews, so send us a flood of them by 10PM MST on Tuesday!

2-11 "Theories"

The penultimate episode of Season Two airs this weekend. You won't want to miss part one of the season finale! Once you've heard "Theories," send in your thoughts...
  • Did you like the continuation of the mystery of Grace, such as the threat call and Ms. Kopek's phone conversation? Do you think the Morrison kids are on to the right track with their theories?
  • Do you believe it would have been wrong for Justin to have done the report in the way his teacher asked? Were you disappointed that this story ended with Justin getting an "F"?
  • Why do you think Lauren wrote about evolution instead of creationism?
  • What do you think about the scene in which Maya meets Grace?
  • Do you believe that the message of this show--doing what's right no matter what--shines through in both the example of Justin and the example of Grace?
And although we did say on the podcast that we'd like your reviews by Monday afternoon, you actually have until 2PM (MST) on Wednesday if you need that long. :-)

He's making a list, checking it twice! Mikey's not doing that for Christmas presents, though: you'll have to listen in to find out what Mikey's list is all about! This weekend's episode is also significant because it features the first appearance of Mr. Richter. Share your thoughts with us once you've heard 2-10 "The List."
  • Did you feel that this show moved along smoothly?
  • Did you like Luke's idea of handing out dog tags at the outreach? Do you think that Brooke, Becca, and Luke worked together well to come up with decorations?
  • Do you like that Mr. Richter is shown as a nice character in the two scenes that he's in?
  • Was Mikey's eagerness to cross off his list entertaining? Why do you think he didn't put Maya on his list?
You should have your reviews in by 2PM Wednesday. :-)

What Did You Think of 2-6?

We want to know what you think of the introduction of two important DGL characters in "When Push Comes to Love," Monica Richter and Blanche Kopek. Along with your thoughts on those characters, let us know what your thought about the different things that went on in this show. Here's some questions to get you thinking!
  • What do you think of the character of Blanche Kopek?
  • What about Monica? Is she at her scheming best in this show?
  • Do you think Brooke is likeable and relatable in this episode?
  • Is Tiffany humorous in this show? Do you think she's meaner than she was in "The Cheater"?
  • In what ways is Justin and Lauren's reponse to Tiffany and to her teasing of Brooke commendable? In what ways is their reaction not good?
  • Who do you think it would be harder to show love to: Ms. Kopek or Tiffany Richter?
  • Does Haley and Timmy's side-story work well to show the theme of loving others as it relates to siblings?
  • Do you find Mrs. Morrison overly sentimental in this show, or is she just a realistic example of a caring mother?
  • Do you think Grace's applying the story of Cinderella to Brooke's situation is memorable or cheesy?
  • In the final scene of this episode, Mrs. Morrison mentions the "domino effect" that Brooke has on her younger siblings. Do you take enough care to be a good example to your siblings?
As we mentioned on the podcast, the deadline for reviews is Tuesday at 7PM. Send us an audio review or leave a comment below!

In addition to receiving lots of reviews for "When Push Comes to Love," we expect to receive lots of entries for this week's SceneWhat? scene! Questions About 2-5 "Whine Not"

We'd love to get your thoughts on this weekend's DGL episode, "Whine Not." Here's a few questions to aid in your reviewing!
  • What adjectives would you use to describe Haley's whiny attitude: realistic, funny, irritating?
  • What do you enjoy about the storyline with Brooke searching for a job?
  • Do you think that Grace's refusal to complain about her blindness is a good example to Haley, or do you think Haley learns her lesson by herself?
Get those reviews to us by 2PM Monday!

Enter SceneWhat? and Review "The Cheater"!

We're waiting for your entries into our latest SceneWhat? competition! Take a look at some of the season three episode descriptions if you need to, then submit your answer!
Next podcast we'll be discussing "The Cheater," an episode which introduces two new characters: Tiffany Richter and Freddy Falstaff. We'd love to hear your thoughts on these characters and the themes of the show.
  • Do you like the character of Tiffany in her debut episode?
  • Did the scenes with Freddy Falstaff make you laugh? Do you wish that Freddy had been in more episodes?
  • Cheating is a lesson which can be presented in a very trite manner. Do you think "The Cheater" managed to bring across the theme in a unique way? Have you ever been in a situation like either Mr. Morrison or Justin were in?
Please get your reviews to us by 2PM Monday!

And, for those of you who were just as confused as Tiffany was regarding Justin's report about Andrew Wyeth, Wyeth was a famous American realist painter in the 20th century, widely acknowledged as one of the best U.S. painters of his time. He received the Congressional Gold Medal in 1988 and the National Medal of Arts in 2007. He is most famous for his painting Christina's World, which depicts his neighbor Christina Olson (you'll remember that Justin mentions the Olson paintings, as he was going to be focusing on the relationship between Wyeth and the Olsons in his report).

Review 1-12 "It's All About Me"

This weekend we head back to Season One and the season's penultimate episode "It's All About Me." Get ready for more threat calls--there's a total of three this week! Do you think these scenes add some needed intensity to the show? Along with that question, here's a few more things for you to think about:
  • Do you like the scene where Justin and Lauren are on the bus and Tera Fields comes by to fix their tire? Do you think Justin does a good job on the news?
  • Why do you think the Morrison kids didn't tell their parents about visiting Grace?
  • Do you think the lesson about selfishness is presented well? Did it convict you?
Don't answer that last question if you don't want. ;-) If you're sending us an audio review, please try to keep it at around three minutes at the most. We ask that your reviews reach us by mid-afternoon on Monday, if at all possible. :-)

To commemorate this time in which we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus, DGL is airing the Easter special "Dressed for Sacrifice" on Saturday. You can listen online or on your local radio station. After you've heard the show, send us a short review expressing your thoughts.
  • Do you think the Richters shopping for dresses is humorous?
  • Is Brooke and Haley's sacrificial gesture in the department store touching?
  • Do you believe that the Morrisons had more fun serving than they would have participating in the Saturday activities they were so excited about?
  • Jacob says that "the truth of the resurrection should affect us every day." What do you think this means?
We'll probably be recording slightly earlier this week, so please send us your reviews by 9PM Sunday.
