Season Finale!

"Blessed Are They" offers you your last chance to review on the SWDGL! 6-12 is not a traditional DGL season finale, so my suggestion would be to listen to it as if it were the last episode of DGL and approach thinking about it that way. Once you've heard it, send us a review!
  • Did you like that this episode had so much to do with college?
  • Did the flashbacks add to the show? In your opinion, which one was the best?
  • What did you think of Caleb's courageous action? Was Mr. Richter's behavior surprising?
  • Would this have made a good episode to end DGL with?
And now that this season's over with, you may like to give some overall thoughts on S6 as well (how did it compare to the previous five seasons?). You have until 2PM MST on Thursday (September 15) to get your thoughts in--let's see if we can get a record number of reviews for our last review podcast!

Emotions are running high on this week's DGL episode, "Pick Your Battles." Once you've found out why marbles are chasing Anthony and what ketchup has to do with this episode, be sure to review 6-11 for inclusion in our podcast!
  • Was this a good post-salvation episode for the character of Caleb?
  • Broken eggs or spilled ketchup?
  • Did you like the references to the Grace saga?
  • Did this episode present an interesting perspective on persecution and bullying? Which of the two Caleb-Mr. Morrison talks did you think was better?

Blessed Are the Peacemakers...

We continue on our journey through the Beatitudes in this weekend's episode, "The Price of Peace." We're interested to hear your thoughts on this show, so please weigh in on 6-10. If you haven't heard this episode before, don't read on!
  • Did you enjoy hearing Vincent and Michael's rivalry? Did this storyline complement the main plot of the episode?
  • Do you think that the Caleb getting arrested storyline concluded well? Was Mr. Morrison's talk with him at the jail a standout part of the episode?
  • Was the conversion scene fitting for the character of Caleb? Do you think Anthony was the best character to lead him to Christ?
You have until 2PM Wednesday (August 31) to review. By the way, you don't have to review traditionally--an anagram, a list of favorite quotes, or whatever creative contribution is welcome!

Clothing Drive This Saturday!

On this weekend's DGL episode "No Good Thing," at least! The fundraising project comes courtesy of Miss Tiffany Richter, who's organized it, and Miss Haley Morrison, who's provided most of the support for it! Listen in to one of the most light-hearted episodes from S6 and then let us know if centering a whole DGL episode around a clothing appeal worked!
  • Was this episode funny?
  • Was Tiffany's exciting clothing drive a good idea? What aspect or aspects of Tiffany and Monica's conduct did you find the most outrageous or unbelievable?
  • Does your family get as enthusiastic (and, in some cases, apprehensive) about getting rid of old clothes as the Morrisons do in this episode? Did that portrayal ring true?
  • Did you enjoy seeing Haley do something out-of-character? Was the way she used the verse immature?
  • What did you think about Maya being the one to convict Haley?
  • What conclusions can we take from this episode regarding purity of heart?
Please get your review in before we record this Monday (August 22) at 3PM!

6-7 "Split Decision"

Thanks for all the reviews you guys have been sending lately--keep it up over the course of this season! "Split Decision" gives you another opportunity to weigh in on a S6 episode, as Caleb struggles with a split personality (hence the episode title). Once you've heard 6-7 please leave us a comment on the show (Spoilers follow)!
  • How do you feel about bowling? Do you think the DGL characters' different reactions to bowling were realistic?
  • Was Caleb's bad attitude and challenging behavior (and the characters' responses to it) too similar to another DGL episode? Did you like the way that "Split Decision" discussed mercy?
  • Did you expect Caleb to show up to go bowling at the end? Do you think this show could have actually had more impact if Caleb hadn't come?
You have until 6PM Wednesday (August 17) to get your thoughts in (remember that you can always send us an audio review via e-mail!)

Slow Walk DGL Episode #73!

We're finally on to discussing Season Six on the SWDGL! In our 73rd podcast, we give our concluding thoughts on S5 before starting on S6 with "Deal with It," an episode which prompts discussion on kickboxing, slights toward Stanley, confusion about storyline connections, generally blasé opinions toward Zach, silliness from Dave because of feeling sick, and the resurgence of a once-popular chorus (or is it really a children's song?). We hope that we transfer some of our excitement for DGL on to you during this week's slow walk!

The Football Fun Continues!

How will last week's episode conclude? Will Coleraine win the big game? How will Caleb respond to being in the game? Will Tiffany get fulfillment? So many questions, all of which will be answered in part two of "Hometown Heroes"! But once you've heard them answered, be sure to send us your thoughts on how it all ended! (Note: 6-6 spoilers follow!)
  • What did you think of the Richter's plans for a Caleb Burger? Would you go out of your way to try a Cougar Burger if the Burger Barn really existed?
  • Was the Richter's gleeful attitude toward Anthony's injury entertaining or unsettling? Which character did you think was the least considerate about it?
  • Do you think Anthony's encouragement to Caleb felt forced?
  • Was it too unrealistic for Coleraine to win the big game? Why do you think that Caleb acknowledged Anthony after Coleraine won?
  • Did the subplot about Tiffany struggling with fulfillment add to the episode?
  • Do you think the message about witnessing was carried over from part one, or was there a different focus in this show?
Be sure to give the show a rating as well! You have until 2PM on Thursday, August 4, to get your review in. :-)

6-5 "Hometown Heroes, 1"

It's football time in Coleraine! Which means lot of dramatic tension in this week's episode, "Hometown Heroes, 1"!
  • Did the fact that this was a sports-heavy episode make you like it less or more?
  • What do you think of the beginning of Caleb and Anthony's friendship?
  • Did you think Maya was a good witness? What did you think of the talk between her and Grace?
You have until 2PM Thursday (August 4) to get your thoughts in. :-)

In podcast #70 we discussed Daniel's extensive DGL collection, which includes rare DGL-branded items and original album editions. Here are his photos of the items, with the times that we discussed them in the podcast, so you can actually see what we're talking about.

(At 17:20) Original S1 album art for the cassette version, containing the original slogan and DGL logo. You'll notice that the album is called Meet the Morrisons instead of Crazy Grace, the title of the new version of this season.
(At 24:18) Daniel's DGL display. From left to right, the DGL t-shirt, Fin M'Coul beanie toy (19:25), mouse pad (17:40), DGL CD and cassette sets, lunch kit (22:35), and bookmark (20:10). On the wall above are the two cast photos (the Morrison actors and the Richter actors), which were included free with S8 and S9.

  • What were your first impressions of the two new characters, Anthony and Vincent Donnor?
  • Did you enjoy seeing Mr. Richter as a kind of bad guy in this episode?

6-2 "Hot-Head, Cold-Heart"

We continue with Season Six this weekend as episode two, "Hot-Head, Cold-Heart," airs. After you listen, send us your thoughts (deadline is 2PM MDT on Monday).
  • What do you think the title of this episode means?
  • Did you appreciate Mikey's continuing storyline? What aspect did you most dislike about it?
  • Are you more like Justin or Caleb when it comes to studying?
  • Did you feel that either Mikey or Justin were out of character in this episode? Whose storyline did you find most interesting?
  • How do you think the Beatitude "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" tied in to both storylines?
Also, Daniel and I have some questions on football in the hopes of understanding this season better. Can any of you--preferably someone who has a lot of experience with football--, answer these questions in a way that people who know very little about the game would understand?
  1. What does a quarterback do?
  2. Why can there only be one quarterback on a football team?
  3. What's a "Hail Mary"?
  4. Why is there such a big emphasis on yard lines? Does that affect how many points a touchdown's worth?

The Sport of the Moment!

Kickboxing fever seems to have hit Coleraine, but the sportiest Morrison appears to be lagging behind the trend. Will he be able to wrestle (or kick, as the case may be) his way into a beginner's class? In other small-town news, Luke's reorganizing the General Store with the help of Caleb, who's recently proven himself to be an embarrassment to his family. Why is Luke so determined to redesign the store? Will Caleb get into any more trouble? Can Stanley really kickbox? Listen to the premiere of Season Six, "Deal With It," and you might find out!
  • This episode is the first DGL show hosted by Zach. What do you think of this host? Do you think the change was too sudden?
  • Was Mikey's kickboxing storyline interesting?
  • Was it helpful to hear Luke dealing with his mother's death, or do you think that that storyline should have been left behind in S5? Do you believe there was any connection between this and the A-Plot?
Please have your review in by Tuesday!

Review S5's Finale!

A season finale has a lot resting on it--as listeners, we expect more from the last episode of a season, hoping that it will satisfactorily wrap up the existing storylines and truly engross us. Sometimes, as with episodes like 4-12 "The End of the Beginning" or 12-13 "Goodnight and God Bless," almost everyone agrees that the season finale was fantastic, yet other times the higher expectations placed on a finale are not met. With all the praise that Daniel and I have lauded on the first eleven episodes of S5, "...And a Time to Dance" will have to be very good to be better than our favorites from this season.

So this is where you guys come in! We want to know what you think of the S5 finale, particularly in relation to other DGL season finales and the other episodes of S5. We want to know what adjectives you'd use to describe "...And a Time to Dance," what character you liked best in this episode, whether the emphasis of this episode was fitting in view of the rest of the season or if it was misguided. In other words, we'd greatly appreciate your opinions on everything to do with 5-12! And if you need some help getting your thoughts together, here's a few questions for you:
  • Did the Morrison family scenes in this episode add to the show? Which Morrison child did you enjoy hearing from the most?
  • Were the Richters humorous in this show?
  • What did you think of the talk between Grace and Becca? Was the scene with Becca outside the church well done?
  • Do you think the last scene was needed in the episode? Was it a good conclusion to the season?
Don't forget to give 5-12 a rating and tell us if it measured up to your expectations! You may also want to check out Brooke's journal to see Brooke's perspective on things. For inclusion in podcast #72, please have your review in by 2PM (MDT) on Tuesday.

"A Time to Mourn..."

We've reached the penultimate episode of Season Five! Find out how some of the main characters are handling Joan's recent death and see if this episode manages to make you tear up. And then, review it!
  • Do you think Tiffany's and Monica's roles in this episode added to the show?
  • Was it nice to have Grace back in Coleraine sharing lessons with a reluctant Morrison child?
  • Was Brooke's struggle relatable? Did you empathize with her?
  • Was it interesting to see how another member of the Morrison family, Mary, is dealing with Joan's death? Was the scene with her looking through old photographs too sappy? (single version only)
  • Do you think this show is too serious for DGL? Was Becca's revelation a good cliffhanger or do you think a more satisfactory ending would have been better?
Please review by 2PM Tuesday for your review to be featured on the podcast. You can also read Brooke's journal entry, which we heard her writing in this episode, here.

Slow Walk DGL Episode #66!

In one of our longest and most thorough podcasts yet, we carefully discuss 5-6 "Comeback, Mom." Topics covered include board games and advertisements for them; the attitudes of Becca and the other Taylors; Mary's retreat and John's attempt to take her place; and of course the ever-recurring question, "Is Timmy annoying?" We also present our arguments for why S5 is not like a soap opera and why it's the best DGL season. • Did you find the marriage ceremony touching?

Will Spring Offer New Hope?

Tiffany, Brooke, Becca, and Joan are the main focus of this weekend's episode, "Springloaded." Find out who gets to be queen of the Spring Ball and how Tiffany is put in her place! (The following questions spoil elements of 5-9, so you have been warned!)
  • Do you think Becca deserved to be voted in as queen? Was it unrealistic for her to win?
  • Do you think either Lizzy Mitchell or Tiffany Richter added lightness to this fairly heavy episode?
  • Were you surprised at Brooke's outburst at the Bed and Breakfast--was it out of character? Did you feel sorry for Tiffany in that scene?
  • Was the reconciliation scene with Joan and Becca satisfactory considering how much it's been set up over the course of the season?
You have until 2PM (MST) Tuesday to submit your review. Oh, and you can find out how Brooke really feels about the Spring Ball voting in this week's journal entry. :-D

5-8 "Brighter Days"

We're back to S5 episodes this week, as the drama surrounding the Taylor family continues. Once you've heard "Brighter Days," please send us your thoughts on the show, using these questions to help if you want (note that one or two of them contain spoilers!).
  • Was Haley's storyline a fun part of this show? Did it fit in the episode despite the more serious story with the Taylors?
  • Did you like hearing a "Brooke and Luke running" scene? What message stood out most from their conversation? (single version only)
  • Did you appreciate the references to the Tom Richter storyline? Do you think the connection made between Joan and Tom was helpful? (single version only)
  • As far as salvation scenes go in DGL, in terms of writing and acting would you consider this episode's example to be one of the best or one of the worst? Do you think Mary did a good job bringing Joan to the right point?
For your review to be included in podcast #68, you must get it in to us by 2PM (MST) this Tuesday! Oh, and once you've heard 5-8, you might want to read Brooke's journal entry that goes along with the episode (just like the above questions, it contains spoilers).

5-7 "Talk to Me"

Join in the fun of discussing another great DGL episode by reviewing this week's show! As always, we have lots of thought-provoking questions to help you out...
  • Why was Mikey so determined to do his assignment without his brother's help? Did you find this storyline relatable?
  • Which assignment of the ones we heard about (fixing a model toy motor, making hard candy, making a strawberry rhubarb pie, or creating a text-to-speech program) would you most want to be given? Why?
  • Why do you think Becca won't even look at, much less speak to, her mother?
  • Was it surprising to hear Mary struggling with something? Was John's encouragement to her good?
  • What do you think Joan is finding hardest to deal with right now? Why do you think Monica is so excited to speak with Joan every time she sees her?
  • In what ways do you think the messages of both storylines were the same?
This is the last S5 episode being played until the end of April, so take advantage of this opportunity to review! You have until 2PM on Tuesday (April 26) to get your thoughts in--and why not go in-depth with this episode, so we can make the podcast about "Talk to Me" our second-longest of all-time!

Oh, and Brooke's journal entry that corresponds to this episode might help you with commenting on the show's lesson. Even if it doesn't, it's always interesting to peek over Brooke's shoulder at her journal. :-)

¿Dónde está el podcast?

Some of you may have noticed that your weekly installment of Daniel and Dave discussing a DGL episode hasn't been quite so, well, weekly lately. The S5 episodes of DGL continue on, but the audio commentary from us hasn't. But do not be alarmed--we're still around, recording the podcast and featuring your reviews each week. The only problem is that our thoughts aren't reaching you guys, due to the long editing process which neither of us have a lot of time for right now. Please hang in there, because we will be back with discussion of these great DGL shows soon! Keep checking the "Upcoming Podcasts" heading on the right-hand side for updates on when the podcasts will be available, and of course don't forget to continue sending reviews!

It's Off to a Retreat We Go!

Mary's going on a mother's retreat in this weekend's episode, which causes one Morrison kid to call out "Comeback, Mom"! Meanwhile, another DGL character is still not excited about her "Comeback Mom," but will some new information help change her attitude? The drama continues in this S5 episode--once you've heard it let us know what you think!
  • What real board game do you think Wordpoppers is most like? Would you be interested in playing this game?
  • Do you think Mary going off to a mother's retreat is a good change for the character? Was it fun hearing John having to cope with her absence?
  • Do you think the kids do a good job of helping their Dad? Was Timmy's over-reacting to his mom's temporary departure an interesting storyline?
  • Was Mary and Becca's conversation a beneficial part of the episode? Why do you think Becca will not trust either her dad or God?

"Chocolate-Covered Promises"

This is another one of those DGL episodes that you shouldn't listen to while hungry! But in between all the food references you'll hear more of the continuing drama surrounding Joan Taylor and find valuable lessons about promises. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this show!
  • Did you think that the storyline with Timmy added to the episode? Was his playing the cute card irritating?
  • Do you think that Grace not being in many episodes this season is a nice change? Did you like hearing her in this episode?
  • Did you sympathize with Brooke wanting to spend time with Becca instead of making the cake? Was it moving to hear Mr. Key explain why the cake was so important to him?
  • What did you think of the interactions between Joan Taylor and Monica Richter--were they annoying or were they funny? Did you like that the theme of promises was looked at in a different context with Joan?
  • In which of the three storylines did the message about keeping promises speak to you the most?
Thanks for keeping up the reviews, guys! We'll be recording about "Chocolate-Covered Promises" on Tuesday (March 22) at 2PM MST, so please have your thoughts in by then if you want your review read or played on the podcast. :-)

Another Week, Another DGL Episode, Another Chance to Review!

Unless you're as sick as Haley, you have no excuse for not reviewing this week's DGL episode, "Snot Fair"! Here's a few questions designed to help you think through the different aspects of the episode...
  • Do you think Kelli Bernott did a good job at sounding sick? Did you find Haley's enthusiasm for being "SOTW" over-the-top? What did you think of Mikey and Timmy's attitude to her sickness?
  • What do you think of Joan Taylor so far? Do you think the Taylor twins' reaction to her return is understandable?
  • This show contains the first appearance of Mrs. Donnor. What do you think of this character? Do you think she makes a better Bed and Breakfast manager than Ms. Kopek did?
  • Was the lesson about trusting God clearly portrayed in both storylines? What connections did you see between the story of Job and the things that happened in this episode?
This should be a fun episode to discuss, and your reviews will only add to the discussion! Please have your thoughts in by 2PM (MST) on Tuesday.
